So perhaps there is hope that the reasoned voices are beginning to pay attention — and are listening beyond the noise and the interpretations of the noise and actually hearing. This seems like progress.

And somehow I still think there needs to be a significant role in guiding the nation for this man.

But I could be wrong.

I really, really want to believe that you’re right, and McConnell’s statement is a step in the right direction, but one part of it prevents me from doing so. The beginning where he talks about maybe voting on the jobs bill sounds great, but what jumps out at me is what his spokesman said later. He talked about slowing debate down and trying to restore striken provisions. We all know that “slow down debate” in Republicanese actually means “kill the bill”, and those provisions that were removed were done so for good reason. And cynically, I still find it hard to see Republicans voting for anything that the Dems tag as important. That being said, for the sake of our country, I truly hope I’m wrong.

I think Reid stripped it down to the point where it is hard to object to much in it — and took the high ground by whacking previous pork-laden bill. It got enough votes to move today.
I think the system works best when things are pushed to a vote without all the horse-trading.
